TOXIC POTENTIAL OF SULPHUR ON LIVING ORGANISMS

     SAFE GOOD HEALTH ROUTINE

The Indian Toxicological Research Centre in Lucknow is engaged in an on-going program on assessing the genotoxic potential of sulphur following dietary supplementation of sulphur in rhodents. This should help in answering some of the queries raised in scientific and medical literature on the toxic effects of sulphur in human diet. Even if it were accepted that in low concentrations, sulphur in human diet may not have readily visible adverse effects on human health, nevertheless, a matter for concern is the potentially adverse effects effects of sulphur even at very low concentrations in the diet of expectant mothers and infants when consumed in foods over protected time scales.

At this stage, the scientific evidence would thus appear to favour the use of sulphur free foods as a safe good health routine.
